Sandcastle Morning Devotional
October 30
The Florida morning has finally begun to hint at autumn. Not with blazing colors or frost-covered lawns, but with a gentle coolness in the air. The humidity loosens its grip for a little while, the breeze feels softer, and for perhaps the first time since spring, the iced coffee gives way to a steaming mug held between both hands.
Scripture
"To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1 (BSB)
This morning, I sit near the shore with hot coffee instead of iced. It is a small thing, almost insignificant, yet it marks a change. The season is turning, slowly and quietly, the way many of God's works unfold.
Florida rarely announces autumn with dramatic fanfare. It arrives one cool morning at a time. One less humid afternoon. One sunset that lingers a little differently over the Gulf. If you're not paying attention, you might miss it.
Spiritual growth often works the same way.
We expect great awakenings, mountain-top experiences, and dramatic transformations. Sometimes God certainly works that way. More often, however, He changes us through small daily moments that only become noticeable when we look back. A morning prayer. A chapter of Scripture. A quiet act of kindness. Another day of trusting Him.
The seasons of our lives shift gradually.
The person who faithfully walks with Christ today may not realize how much God is shaping them. Yet over months and years, the heart softens, wisdom deepens, and faith becomes steadier. Like Florida's autumn, the change is subtle but real.
As you sip your coffee this morning, consider what season God may be bringing you into. Perhaps He is inviting you into a season of rest after struggle. Perhaps a season of learning after confusion. Or simply a season of faithful perseverance.
Whatever the season, the Lord who guides the tides guides your days as well.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the changing seasons and for the reminder that You are at work even when the changes seem small. Help me trust Your timing and recognize Your hand in the ordinary moments of life. As the seasons turn, shape my heart to follow You more closely. May my words and actions reflect Your grace today. In Jesus' name, amen.
Sandy Thought
The first hot coffee of a Florida autumn may not seem like a spiritual experience, but sometimes God's reminders arrive in the steam rising from a familiar mug and a cool breeze off the water. ☕🌊🍂
